The Silence is Deafening
Ever since "Superman" Christopher Reeve told us he was convinced that embryonic stem cell research would help him to walk again we have been waiting. The fact that we were destroying babies to harvest the stem cells weighed far less on society's collective mind than the prospect of the cures we would discover for all of our most debilitating diseases. The promise of embryonic stem cell research was all over the news. I found it fascinating to learn recently that when the cancer research foundation Komen for the Cure (who “quietly added a new statement to its web site stating that it does not support embryonic stem cell research, but supports the kinds that do not involve the destruction of human life.”) and Michael J. Fox admitted (life destroying) embryonic stem cell research isn't the panacea everyone promised but instead (life affirming) adult stem cells are the ones that have shown promise as well as real results it doesn't seem to make a big splash in the news. Why do you think that is? The silence is deafening and speaks loudly about our culture.
